Google posts, and pulls, video that may have revealed the Nexus 5

It's not totally out-of-character for Google to build hype around a forthcoming product with carefully planned marketing shennanigans, and today's "give me a break!" Kit Kat reveal was a perfect example. This time, the sneak peek of what might be a Nexus 5 in a video promoting the Android 4.4 Kit Kat announcement may have been an honest mistake.

The YouTube video was quickly pulled after eagle-eyed users at The Verge's reader forums caught a glimpse of an employee holding up a black smartphone with the word "Nexus" on the back. It would have been easy to pass it off as the current Nexus device, but since the employee is holding it up next to the recently price-dropped Nexus 4, it's obvious that one is a bit bigger than the other, with the Nexus brand etched in a different direction. The camera module looks larger than we've seen on a Nexus device, too.

Rumor mongers are calling it the first coming of the Nexus 5. It seemed like the leak was intentional, meant to drum up buzz for the unannounced device, until Google quickly made the video private.

The cheap $200 8GB version of the Nexus 4 just sold out, and the fact that it won't be restocked has driven speculation that a new Nexus phone is one the way. Today's video slip-up adds fuel to the fire.
